As a subscriber to your paper I feel you usually do a good job of covering the region but I was somewhat disappointed in the slanted views given by Eric Mayer in the Friday edition in the sports section (W/C vs Parkston) At THREE different times he made mention of the "controversial call" that went against Parkston and yet barely gave notice to the grand slam that was hit. Yes it was controversial and I don't know if it was right or wrong but the fact is that that was the call the umpire made and no amount of complaining was going to change that---it rarely does. With that said I'm wondering why Mayer didn't expound on the extreme poor sportsmanship shown by the Parkston team--whining swearing and literally throwing things while having their tantrum in the dugout! For gosh sakes! These are grown men who have played ball for years and should know that not all calls go your way all the time! I just wonder if the call had been in reverse would the slant be the same?
