In 1959, Harold Boerboom joined the A.I. Root Candle Company as a sales representative selling church candles across the State of Minnesota. With an emphasis on great customer service and high-quality products, Harold was able to build strong, lasting relationships with his customers. In 1977, Harold's son, Tom, began working alongside his father to provide for a growing customer base. In 1991, Harold and Tom became independent from the A.I. Root Candle Company and expanded their business, H.J. Boerboom & Associates, to include products from many different religious goods suppliers. Harold retired in 1992 handing over all administrative duties to son Tom and his wife Colleen. With a reputation for responsive service, and no-charge delivery, the Company's popularity among churches grew quickly. In 1999, H.J. Boerboom & Associates acquired Petrolle's, a church goods supply store located in Duluth, MN to provide for customers in the northern corners of Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin. One of the former co-owners of Petrolle's, James Malnar remained employed by Boerboom's until his retirement in early 2014. Jim was an integral part of the business generated in Duluth and Superior. In 2000, Tom's oldest son, Ryan, became the third generation to work in the family business. For over a decade, under the tutelage of his father and grandfather, Ryan has worked hard to ensure the Company's tradition of unbeatable customer service will continue long into the future. Ryan's wife Jessica began working for the business in 2007. While Tom and Ryan are on the road calling on customers and making deliveries, Colleen and Jessica assume responsibilities of customer orders and billing. In 2010, family friend Sam began working for the business organizing product in the warehouse and making deliveries. Hannah came on board during the fall of 2013 assisting with customer calls and office duties.
