He did his initial medical training in India and followed that up with a fellowship in Mood Disorders from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada. Dr. Varma did his American psychiatry residency at the University of Texas, Houston (UTH). He has admitting privileges at Fairview Southdale in Edina, MN, Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN and Mercy Hospital, Coon Rapids, MN. He sees adults as well as children, adolescents and geriatric populations and patients from various cultural backgrounds and he accepts all insurances. In addition to psychiatric medication management, Dr. Varma offers the following services: •Saliva drug testing through Cordant labs – done on the premises •Personalized prescribing through Genesight by salivary DNA testing •Vivitrol monthly injections for alcohol and opioid dependence •He is certified by the DEA to prescribe suboxone, zubsolv, bunavail for opioid dependence •He performs Electro Convulsive Therapy at Fairview Southdale hospital •He works with a Ketamine infusion clinic for Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD)
