Founded in 1933, Charles J. Merlo Inc. serves the transportation needs of the western Pennsylvania coal mining industry. It specializes in site work development, concrete structures, reservoirs, flood control, mine reclamation and mitigation, landfill construction and other services. Development services offered by the company include excavation, grading, road construction and drainage, paving and landscaping. Some of the projects undertaken by Charles J. Merlo Inc. are Norfolk Southern Keystone Buildout, Blacklick Creek Ecosystem Restoration, River Hill Coal Project Access Roads, Westinghouse Electric Company, Coopersdale Bridge and Maryland Bridges. It has been awarded the Risk Control Award of Excellence for 2007, 2008 and 2009.
