- Dental CareJust think about what our mouths would look like (let alone smell like) if we didn’t brush our teeth regularly. Well, you don’t have to imagine, just look in your pet’s mouth! Unless you’re extremely motivated, you probably don’t brush your pet’s teeth often, if ever. It’s important to realize that dental disease isn’t limited to the mouth–the longer bacteria lingers on your pet’s teeth, the more likely these infections are to spread to other parts of the body. This can potentially cause problems in the heart, liver and kidneys. Most pets would greatly benefit from a plan for oral health including routine brushing and periodic cleanings by our staff. Pets are placed under general anesthesia and receive the same ultrasonic scaling and polishing that we humans receive from our dentists.
- Comprehensive ExaminationSince our pets can’t tell us when they’re hurting, it takes a combination of observant owners and routine check-ups by a veterinarian to provide relief. Through regular, comprehensive physical examinations we can detect health problems early or, better yet, prevent them from occurring!
- Skin Condition and Allergy TreatmentDogs and cats can be allergic to almost anything, similar to allergies in people. Pets can be allergic to allergens in their household environment, outside environment, or even their food. Symptoms can range from itchiness and ear or eye infections to constant licking, and even vomiting or diarrhea. Many pets suffer from allergies which can directly affect their quality of life, as well as their owner’s.

- Veterinary SurgeryWe can use a laser during almost any soft-tissue surgery that we perform. We can use them when we do routine surgeries like spays and neuters, and we can also use lasers for tumor removals, eyelid surgeries, and other surgeries.
- Laser SurgeryLaser surgery uses a beam of a certain wavelength of light to cut tissue instead of using a scalpel blade. Because our surgeons are highly skilled, they can control the amount of light used, which gives them extreme surgical precision.
- DeclawingMillersville Animal Hospital combines a well-equipped surgical suite with the safety of the most up to date anesthetic drugs, continuous EKG, oxygen and carbon dioxide monitoring during surgery. We are able to perform a broad array of surgeries with the exception of orthopedics. Our surgeons handle everything from the common spays, neuters, and feline laser declaws to the more difficult tumor removals, eye surgeries, and abdominal surgeries.
- Spaying and NeuteringMany people assume we recommend dogs be spayed and neutered only to help control pet overpopulation. Did you know spaying and neutering can also prevent cancer? Meet Jazz. He was adopted as a puppy and wasn’t neutered because his pet parents thought they might want to breed him. The years came and went and at 11 years old Jazz came to our office and Dr. Laning noticed he had a tumor near his anus, and one of his testicles was much larger than the other. Suspecting testicular cancer he was neutered and had the anal mass removed by Dr. Rommel using our surgical laser. It turns out the large testicle had two types of cancer (Seminoma and Interstitial Cell Tumor) and the mass near the anus was a Circumanal Gland Adenoma, which is a cancer most commonly seen in un-neutered males. All three of these cancers would have been prevented if Jazz had been neutered as a puppy.
- Laboratory ServicesWith an in-house laboratory we are able to perform many diagnostic tests quickly and efficiently. We are also proud to have the ability to offer not only some simple tests but also some more complex tests, too!
