Institute of Ecosystem Studies, located in Millbrook, N.Y., is a nonprofit ecological education and research institute. It provides educational programs for children, students and adults focusing on global ecosystems and critical thinking skills. The adult continuing education program at the Institute of Ecosystem Studies offers courses for enthusiasts, homeowners and professionals in various areas, such as gardening, landscape designing, land management and environmental policy making. It also offers courses in plant propagation, organic flower gardening and pest control, and natural science illustration courses, such as garden photography. It has specialized instructors that teach practical skills for working with the environment. It also has a library that provides a large collection of scientific research books, periodical subscriptions and electronic resources. Institute of Ecosystem Studies also publishes scientific books and articles, and organizes international conferences and workshops. The institute was established in 1983.
