I'm glad I didn't read the reviews below before use his service, my experience was completly different. I needed to change my furnice and we were planing to go from oil to gas I called three well known companies on the island and told them the same story (even when it wasn't true) "I just know that I want to convert from oil to gas, I don't know anything else". Joe was the only one who told me what I need, why I needed and how everything is going to work. He gave me a quotes for the cheapest option and the best high efficiency option. More than that he gave me all the information that I needed to know about National Grid rebates and made notes on what rebated I would qualified for each of the options. When the time comes he spent three days at home working and I didn't even feel him around (other that all the noise to disconnect and take out the dinosaur that I had as a boiler; but it was well deserved noise cause it was heavy).

A contractor came to my house few month later and saw it and he was impress he said something like "wow, that looks so sexy, what a great job". That made me really happy.

My only complaint might be that it was very hard to schedule a follow up visit (suggested by him) to verify that the system was working propertly, but that is not a big issue since almost a year later the system is still working like a charm.

Call Joe, he does good work.

We called Joe to replace our well pump in the fall, in spite of the previous review. It's not easy to get a plumber to come out and do well work, it turns out. We were happy with his work and followed through on his suggestion / quote to replace our vintage oil furnace. I checked with a coworker who is knowledgeable and he indicated that the quoted equipment was top notch and that the cost was reasonable.

We are happy customers and are saving at least as much oil and money as he had estimated. We would definately use Chaves Plumbing & Heating again.

Joe replaced our well pump in the fall, we had him replace our vintage oil furnace and tank a couple of months later. We're happy with the work and we are definately saving money on oil. He estimated that we would save at least 1/3 of our oil expenses, and it appears that we saving more than that.

Converted oil to gas in large apt building. Nice clean job and the system works beautifully. I am saving alot of money and the air is cleaner. Very happy.

Installation nightmare! Bad workmanship, over-priced, NO followup leaving us hanging and getting someone else in to help us, bankruptcy, & overall rude treatment!! Trusted Joe, and that, still, hurts...along with the fact that we had to get someone else in to fix the problems that he ignored, even after we called and wrote for days! Very aggressive on being paid, too. Don't give them your credit card info because they will charge for the system without your permission...we, actually, gave him a check for the system and they had, already, charged our credit card! Once paid, forget any further assistance. We begged him to have someone come and help us when our system failed after 2 months. We had to get someone else to come in and fix things to the tune of $1,000.00!! When I put in to Small Claims to be reimbursed for this $1,000.00, I found out that Joe had filed for bankruptcy! So, not only are we out the $1,000.00, but, he said that because of this, our warranty was over and his promise to come and check on the system each year...forget it! We paid top dollar to Joe because he said his men were certified plumbers, but, when they messed up big time and we had a problem, nobody was available. BEWARE!!

Did good work for my family over almost ten years in very complex new construction in existing building (far beyond rehab) and emergency situations. Comes equipped to do the job in one visit most of the time. Job site is in Newport.

Already knew what I wanted done. Wouldn't even quote over the phone. Wanted to charge $40 non-refundable (if I decided to go with someone else) "diagnostic charge". Do not recommend to anyone.

Very High prices based on book price listings, regardless of how little time it takes, even for the most complicated jobs the prices would still be excessive.I paid a lot to have them hookup a new kitchen sink, most of the work was already correctly done but they still charged me the full rate to install a kitchen sink, which was expensive, even though they had less than half of the work left to do.Recently I requested a price quote to re plumb a utility sink and replace a washing machine hookups, again they wanted full new install prices to do the work, so I went else where.Other plumbers have offered to do this recent work for half the price.
