Dr. Young Lu is a graduate of Cornell University after which, he graduated from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. As a medical student, he completed a research fellowship in Spine Surgery. He then completed his orthopedic residency at University of California, Irvine that also included a year dedicated to spine biomechanics and clinical outcomes research. He was then selected for the Combined Neurological and Orthopedic Spine Surgery Fellowship at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic. The Cleveland Clinic Spine Fellowship is a combined neurosurgery and orthopedic spine surgery program. The mentorship and training from both neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons allow him to uniquely bring both perspectives in the treatment of spine pathology.Dr. Young Lu focuses on degenerative cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine disease, deformity, spine trauma and minimally invasive spine surgery. His research interests include biomechanical spine research, clinical outcome studies and intervertebral disc biology.
