He then returned to Miami to attend the University of Miami School of Medicine and received his medical degree in 1976. Dr. Simon continued his studies and did his ophthalmology training at The Washington Hospital Center, in Washington D.C., then completed his fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus in 1982. He has been practicing ophthalmology in Miami, Florida since 1983. Besides completing his fellowship in the specialized field of strabismus (eye muscle imbalances), Dr. Simon has also been involved in various cutting-edge technologies and therapies within ophthalmology from their inception. He participated in the multi-center study that eventually brought Botox to the marketplace making him one of the doctors in Miami, FL with the longest experience with Botox. Dr. Simons involvement with refractive surgery began with radial keratotomy (RK) in 1984. That surgery was later replaced by LASIK. Dr. Simon was there at the start of LASIK from its early beginnings. When the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) finally approved laser vision correction (LASIK), he was among the first doctors to become certified on the VISX laser to perform LASIK. In 2013, Dr. Simon became certified to perform femtosecond laser cataract surgery on the LensAR system at the Medical Arts Surgery Center in Baptist Hospital. Dr. Simon sees patients of all ages, from early childhood to elderly, performing many types of surgeries in addition to laser vision correction. He treats patients with cataracts (including laser cataract surgery), glaucoma, and strabismus, as well as other ophthalmic disorders. Dr. Simon is one of the few ophthalmologists in the area with fellowship training and experience in treating patients with eye muscle imbalances.
