As one of the largest metropolitan areas in the state of Florida, Miami-Dade County is often referred to as the gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. The total population of the nearly 35 municipalities is approximately 1.2 million. The Miami-Dade County Police Department operates a number of divisions that include court services, domestic crimes, crime scene bureau, crime laboratory, impounded property, internal affairs, jail and inmate information, training bureau and the sexual crimes bureau.
