Dr Chavez is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology and Hypertension, and is a Clinical Hypertension Specialist. His clinical and research interests include management of hereditary kidney diseases, such as ADPKD or Alport syndrome; management of all causes of glomerulonephritis or nephrotic syndrome; management of complex cases of hypertension, especially if associated with underlying kidney disease. He is a collaborator of the UM ADPKD Center of Excellence and the UM Comprehensive Hypertension Center. He received his medical degree from Universidad Autonoma De Chihuahua, Mexico. He trained in internal medicine at University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital and completed nephrology fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
