The Melville Volunteer Fire Department, founded in 1947, is a full-service public safety agency that offers a variety of fire rescue and prevention services. It organizes a variety of public education and special programs that help and assist the residents during the normal fire and medical emergency situations. The department works to protect the lives, property and environment from the threats and occurrences of emergencies. It undertakes fire investigations, reviews plans and conducts inspections. The Melville Volunteer Fire Department maintains a staff of more than 30 employees. In addition, the department receives and response to request calls for emergency medical assistance. It responds to more than 2,400 calls each year. The fire department is located in Melville, N.Y.
