As a part of the City of Melissa in Texas, the Melissa Municipal Court handles several pleas, including guilty, no contest and not guilty. It is responsible for the collection of fines, citations, fees and court costs for a range of legal procedures. The court accepts payment through cash, money orders, personal checks and credit cards. It also accepts deferral requests for a probationary period set by judge that enables individuals to keep violation off their record at the completion of probationary period without receiving citation. The Melissa Municipal Court offers a certificate drivers safety course through class sessions, home videos and the Internet. It additionally handles juvenile cases for traffic, alcohol and tobacco citations for children below the age of 17.
