- Organized in 1961, Calvary Baptist Church has a reputable history in the city of Melbourne. The church was organized to provide a place of worship to those living on the north side of the city that was known then as Eau Gallie. There was not much on the north side, and the church was considered a country church in the middle of nowhere. Several families came alongside Pastor Clyde Green to help establish this new church. Pastor Green had already established several other churches, the one before, being in Cocoa, Florida. Under his leadership the church grew in the community, as the community grew around the church. Within the next five years, three block buildings would be constructed, primarily by the members of the congregation giving of their money, as well as time and labor. The Lord was blessing, and souls were being reached for Christ. In 1972, with a new pastor leading the church, the Lord blessed, and the church built a new 800 seat auditorium. In 2003, the church purc hased additional property that would allow room for growth and access to Parkway Rd. Throughout these decades, the church has seen hundreds come to know the Lord, many more surrendered to full time Christian service. Many became pastors & missionaries. The church currently supports approximately 90 missionary families & mission works.
