The Brevard County Sheriff's Office maintains social order and peace, as well as provides law enforcement services. The office operates a jail that provides detention facility to convicted criminals and detainees in pending trials. The jail is accredited by the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission (FCAC). The Brevard County Sheriff's Office has a communication center that dispatches calls for law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services. It maintains a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team that specializes in bomb disposal and hostage and barricaded gunman situations.
