The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control is an administrative hearing agency that offers a range of public safety services. It controls the distribution of alcoholic beverages and enforces laws pertaining to alcoholic beverages and tobacco products. The agency undertakes state, local and federal investigations for various criminal activities, including gambling, money laundering and tax evasions. The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control also conducts underage sale compliance checks and enforces laws in more than 14,000 licensed establishments. The agency operates over 300 stores throughout the commonwealth and offers a selection of merchandise with nearly 2,000 items on price list. It maintains an annual revenue of approximately $600 million. The agency features an Alcohol and Aging Awareness Group, which provides education on alcohol misuse to the senior citizens.
