  We begin by giving you a very thorough examination. Many patients say they’ve never had such an extensive oral exam. We check out your bite and how your teeth mesh together, we look for oral cancer signs, gum disease, wear on the tooth structure, and any problem that you might encounter in the future. We want to stave off any problems and make your smile healthy so you will be spending less time at the dentist!
• X-rays
  Dental X-rays are an important part of our preventive care program, and we’re pleased to say that digital X-rays are now available at our practice. With this technology, an image is taken of your mouth using a digital sensor and then downloaded to our computer, where it is instantly accessible. We can also now capture your entire mouth in one view, including the upper and lower jaws, utilizing panoramic digital X-rays. These methods result in 75% less radiation than older dental X-rays. You won’t need to wait for images to develop and there are no more chemical wastes to pollute our environment.
• Oral Cancer Screening
  If the hygienist or doctors see anything that causes concern, they’ll refer you to an oral surgeon for screening. This oral cancer screening could literally be lifesaving!

• Teeth Cleaning
  An important reason to visit the dentist is to have a teeth cleaning by a professional hygienist. Plaque or tartar form on teeth over the years. Plaque is soft and sticky, but consistent brushing can usually keep it under control. However, plaque hardens into tartar, which is beyond the ability of a toothbrush or floss. Tartar builds up under the gum line as well as on the tooth surface. If plaque isn’t removed, you risk more serious problems with your teeth and gums in the future. Recent research reveals a link between untreated gum disease and serious conditions such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Having your teeth cleaned by a hygienist regularly is one of the best things you can do to stay healthy.

• Root Canal Treatment
  A root canal is a way to repair a tooth by removing the tooth pulp and replacing it with a filling material. This is often needed when decay reaches the tooth nerve (or the tooth is infected), and a regular filling won’t work. Not too many years ago, the situation described above would have required the tooth to be extracted. When dentists began performing root canals, patients dreaded the procedure, and therefore the root canal has gotten a poor reputation.   Traditionally, dental implant surgery and the restoration of the implants is a two-stage process. However, in selected cases, implants can be restored on the same day of implant surgery. With proper planning and provided there is enough bone, a patient can have implant surgery in the morning and walk out in the afternoon with a beautiful smile already screwed into their implants. It is teamwork between the surgeon and the prosthodontist. Today you can walk into our practice with a set of dentures or failing teeth and leave a few hours later with implants and a brand-new smile attached to them!

  Samantha Siranli, DMD, PhD, FACP, earned her dental degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and has completed several postgraduate programs in prosthodontics, which is dedicated to the cosmetic and functional restoration of missing teeth. She has achieved fellowship in implant dentistry, is trained in advanced hospital dentistry, and even obtained a PhD in research on dental implants. In 2010, the American Board of Prosthodontics awarded her the most prestigious award in the field: Board Certification (Diplomate) in Prosthodontics. In 2011, on account of her work as one of the best dentists in Washington, DC, Dr. Siranli was invited to be a featured speaker at the board’s annual convention, where she presented her case to hundreds of colleagues from across the United States.

  Dr. Hong graduated summa cum laude from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. She received the American Academy of Periodontology Award and was inducted into the Nu Chapter of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) Dental Honors Society. Following graduation, she went on to complete a General Practice Residency at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT. During residency, she received training in implantology, oral surgery, intravenous and oral sedation, molar endodontics, Botox for myofascial pain, and cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Hong has wanted to be a dentist ever since she was little. She truly enjoys her practice and is passionate about bringing the highest quality dental care to every patient in her chair.
