Through its family of brands, Clayton builds, sells, finances, leases and insures a full spectrum of affordable housing and is one of the nation's top retailers of manufactured homes. Affordable home brands include Oakwood Homes, Marlette, Crest and Golden West Homes. Clayton Homes was founded in 1966 and acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 2003. The company's distribution facilities include approximately 1,100 independent retailers and more than 390 company owned sales centers in 30 states. Clayton Homes has more than 30 manufacturing plants, including its facility in Maryville, Tenn.
