When my brother went to Serenity Point Recovery 8 months ago, it saved his life. My brother has struggled with his addiction for 20 years now. Hes 10 years older than me and for a long time I didnt know was addiction was and definitely didnt understand that he was a drug addict. By the time I did understand it all, he had moved out of the house and I saw him very rarely. Our parents wouldnt let him come to house unless he was sober so mostly I saw him when he was coming home from some rehab. For the most part, he didnt stay very long. Either hed relapse and leave or hed move out and then later relapse. 5 years ago, he stayed with us for a year though. He wasnt hanging out with his old friends so he was home most of the time if he wasnt working. It was awesome. I finally got to know my brother and we became much closer in that year. It killed me when he relapsed. I couldnt understand why hed start using again when hed been clean for so long. I finally came to understand that all the little curve balls life throws at you werent something he could handle very well. When things didnt go exactly as hed planned he had a much harder time staying sober. When lots of things happened in a short amount of time, relapsing was almost a certainty. When my parents found Serenity we all spent 4 months trying to convince him to go. He finally went and everything about the facility just seemed to work for him. They have multiple programs there which is good cause hes done so many different programs that he needed something different. He loved the fact that he had a choice about what hed be doing. From what he told me when we talked on the phone and from what I saw when we went to visit him, Serenity was the perfect place for him. The staff there are great. So nice and easy to get along with. They always were doing stuff to make his stay more enjoyable. He stayed at Serenity for 3 months and he was different when he came home. He was much more committed to staying sober and to doing what he needed to do to make that happen. He spoke with his aftercare specialist a lot and went to meetings. He was just able to handle his life is general much better. Hes so much happier now and Im so glad to have my big brother back in my life.
