• Glaucoma
  Glaucoma is a disease that damages your eye's optic nerve. It usually happens when fluid builds up in the front part of your eye. That extra fluid increases the pressure in your eye, damaging the optic nerve.

  Dr. Remis graduated from Boston University School of Medicine in 1974 and completed his medical residency at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia PA in 1978.  Post residency, Dr. Remis treated patients and instructed residents for over 10 years in the Glaucoma Consultation Service at The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.  Since 1980, Dr. Remis has been practicing ophthalmology full-time in Marblehead MA.  He specializes in treating cataracts and glaucoma and brings extensive experience treating eye disorders, such as dry eye syndrome and diabetic retinopathy to the North Shore. Dr. Remis performs surgery at the North Shore Medical Center in Salem MA.
• Macular Degeneration
  As part of the natural aging process the macula can deteriorate and breakdown. The macula is the part of the eye responsible for central and detail vision. Those with age-related macular degeneration experience blurry, dark, and distorted central vision.
• Laser Eye Surgery
  Tear secretion also may be reduced by certain conditions that decrease corneal sensation. Diseases such as diabetes and herpes zoster are associated with decreased corneal sensation. So is long-term contact lens wear and surgery that involves making incisions in or removing tissue from the cornea (such as LASIK).
• Cataracts
  You will be required to come into the office for a pre-operative appointment.  At this time, Dr. Remis will measure you for the lens that will replace the cataract.  We will try to schedule that appointment as soon as possible.
• Cataract Surgery
  Dr. Remis performs his cataract surgeries at North Shore Medical Center/Salem Hospital located at 81 Highland Ave. Salem, MA 01970.  Cataract surgery is done on an outpatient basis.
• Eye Exam
  People of all ages can experience blurry vision, otherwise known as refractive issues of the eye. If you notice that you are having a hard time reading road signs, seeing details in your surroundings, reading materials up close, or you just don't see as well as you use to, you may be experiencing one of these conditions.
