Great River Energy is a nonprofit generation and transmission cooperative that provides wholesale electric services. It serves more than more than 1.7 million individuals through over 30 distribution cooperatives in Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin. The cooperative owns nearly 44,000 miles of transmission power lines and more than 100 transmission substations. Great River Energy also owns and operates over five power plants that generate more than 2,500 megawatts of electricity. The cooperative offers a range of electric conservation and load management services. Its member cooperatives include the Dakota Electric Association, East Central Energy and Agralite Electric Cooperative. Great River Energy maintains a staff of nearly 870 employees.
