Other plans may only cover accident and illness. Decide how much coverage you want your pet to have and know whether there is a waiting period before coverage becomes effective and whether your pet needs a health exam to qualify for the policy.”
- Disability InsuranceWhen it comes to disability insurance for a key man or woman, the amount of the monthly benefit is strictly based on the key man’s income. You can’t purchase more than 66% of that employee’s monthly income. The only variables that an employer can adjust are 1.) the length of time for which you want the benefit paid (5 years, 10 years, up until age 65, etc.) and 2.) the waiting period that exists until the benefit kicks in (30 days, 60 days, 90 days, 180 days, etc.).

The Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents (DIA) oversees the entire system and related laws. The WCRIBMA (a private, nonprofit org) issues Massachusetts’ worker classification codes, associated rates, and experience modification factors for individual companies. - Builders Risk InsuranceGeneral liability is an important coverage for builders and contractors, just as it is for most other types of businesses. Sometimes specified as a CGL (or “commercial general liability”) policy, this coverage protects against bodily injury, third-party property damage (i.e. other people’s stuff), and allegations of false advertising, libel, or slander. Often used interchangeably with “builders risk” insurance, general liability is NOT the same thing. Both serve a unique purpose (see more on builders risk below), and sometimes both are essential coverages–especially if your company works on ground-up, new construction projects.CGL policies can be complex. If they’re not properly reviewed, the insertion of certain “forms” can exclude important, assumed coverages. For builders and contractors, a few examples of hidden exclusions include damage to “your work”, injury to subcontractors, and classification limitations which restrict coverage to just “your line of work.”
