- Plantar FasciitisPlantar fasciitis is inflammation of the fascia, a band of thick, fibrous connective tissue located on the bottom of the foot and extending from the heel to the ball of the foot. While it more commonly affects athletes and runners, this condition can also become a source of concern for other individuals. Plantar fasciitis usually develops as a result of small tears in the fascia, often caused by stress and overuse, or perhaps by incorrect or excessive stretching. That said, not all of the causes are currently known.
- Medical Weight LossOnce you have been diagnosed with a herniated disk, your orthopaedic surgeon will discuss the treatment options that are most appropriate for alleviating your symptoms and hopefully resolving the condition altogether. Surgery for herniated disks is typically a last resort, so most patients are advised to try a variety of non-surgical and minimally invasive treatments first. Non-surgical treatments may include physical therapy (exercise and stretching), anti inflammatory medications, steroid injections, weight loss, and highly specialized chiropractic care (spinal manipulation). For the majority of patients, these techniques prove to be successful; however, patients must be committed to following through with the treatment plan to achieve an optimal outcome.
- Primary CareAn acute (sudden) injury that causes a fracture typically causes significant and immediate pain. Stress fractures, on the other hand, will cause increasing pain over time, or they may suddenly become painful. If your ankle is swollen, tender to the touch, bruised, and you cannot put weight on that side, you should schedule a consultation right away with your primary care physician or an orthopaedic surgeon you trust.

- UltrasoundAt Garden State Orthopaedic Associates our orthopaedic surgeons utilize a variety of diagnostic techniques to determine whether patients are indeed suffering from a frozen shoulder. Proper testing and diagnostic imaging can eliminate other potential causes of shoulder pain and stiffness, such as arthritis, bursitis or, rotator cuff injuries. The process begins with an appointment to discuss your symptoms and review your medical history. Next your orthopaedic surgeon will determine your range-of-motion to notate any limitations. From there, he or she may request X-rays, MRIs, and/or shoulder ultrasound to help pinpoint a diagnosis.
- MRIOur PreCert Department will help with authorization of diagnostic testing such as MRI’s, CT Scans, Ultrasounds, and EMG’s—as well as bone stimulators and visco-supplementation injections.
- RadiologyVicky oversees the day-to-day operations of the front-end staff in each of our six offices. Mrs. Lanza also manages the radiology technical staff. Under her supervision, our radiologic technologists provide patients with diagnostic X-rays required to help diagnose different orthopaedic conditions. The staff performs regular quality assurance and quality control tests to ensure optimal functioning of all of our radiologic equipment. All of our equipment has met or exceeded the requirements of the State of New Jersey and private insurance carriers.

- Computed TomographyMost fractures can be treated without the need for surgery, and we will evaluate your condition to determine if non-surgical and minimally invasive techniques will be sufficient for your case. It’s less common, but with severe ankle fractures an operation may be necessary to set the bone or to remove bone chips that could cause an infection. Using imaging technology (X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, and/or other options), our surgeons can determine if more aggressive treatment will be needed. During your examination, we will identify whether one or more bones have broken (the ankle is made up of the end of the tibia and fibula bones, which make up the lower leg, and the talus, the “ankle bone”) and how severely they and the surrounding tissues are damaged.

- Joint ReplacementThe knee joint is comprised of a complex system of bone, cartilage, and ligaments to create a strong hinge joint that can support the body’s weight and enable lower leg mobility. Injury to or arthritis of certain parts of the knee can cause persistent pain along with difficulty standing and walking. When non-surgical treatment options have failed to deliver the desired results, our orthopaedic surgeons may consider a variety of surgical approaches and joint replacement devices to achieve optimal improvement in joint function and pain reduction.

- Hip ReplacementWhen the hip joint becomes damaged, issues such as consistent pain, dysfunction, and stiffness can have a profound effect on mobility and quality of life. Whether the damage is caused by arthritis, wear, or traumatic injury, many individuals struggle to perform routine daily activities and may require a cane or walker to remain ambulatory as the condition of the joint progressively worsens. Thankfully, state-of-the-art surgical procedures, like hip replacement, can restore health and proper function to the hip joint. Our orthopaedic surgeons at Garden State Orthopaedic Associates offer a variety of surgical options that have helped patients of many ages and lifestyles regain their mobility and comfort for a fuller, more enjoyable life.
- Knee ReplacementMost knee replacement procedures are successful, and it’s uncommon for a patient to need revision surgery. However, there are some instances in which this operation is recommended. A revision knee replacement can reduce pain and enhance mobility, just like with a primary knee replacement. A revision replacement typically also involves removing and replacing some or all of the prosthetic parts that were implanted in the first procedure. Our board certified orthopaedic surgeons can assist you in determining if your primary knee replacement failed and if a revision would allow you to live a healthier, more comfortable, and more active life. Talk to us today to schedule a consultation and learn more.
- Knee ArthroscopyOne of the most commonly used, and commonly injured, areas of the body is the knee. This joint is used to run, jump, bike, turn, pivot, and many more movements often utilized in recreational activities. When problems develop, there are many ways to identify the issue and to correct it. One of the most advanced techniques that can be used to perform both actions is called arthroscopic knee surgery, or knee arthroscopy. This procedure is a minimally invasive method of evaluating an injury and treating it. Small incisions, rather than one large one, are used and a special type of camera, called an arthroscope, is inserted. The internal images are displayed on a screen so the orthopaedic surgeon can view them clearly and use the information as a guide. Smaller incisions typically mean a shorter recovery, less risk of complications, and reduced scarring. Our extensively trained team can help you determine if knee arthroscopy can be used to address your knee concerns.

- Frozen ShoulderChronic pain and stiffness in the shoulder and restricted range of motion can indicate the presence of a few different conditions including one known as frozen shoulder. While the exact cause of a frozen shoulder is unknown, the discomfort and disability associated with the condition results from inflammation and scar tissue within the shoulder capsule. The shoulder capsule is the connective tissue that surrounds the synovial ball and socket joint that joins the upper arm bone (humerus) and shoulder blade (scapula). Without proper treatment, frozen shoulder typically continues to worsen, disturbs sleep, and limits arm movement. Pain and cramping can become so severe that patients begin to experience interruption in simple daily activities and secondary symptoms resulting from sleep deprivation. Over a period of approximately one to three years, the condition usually improves on its own; however, the intense discomfort it causes motivates most sufferers to seek treatment for relief.

- Ankle SprainOne of the most common injuries, an ankle sprain is when the ligaments that support the ankle joint stretch beyond their normal range of motion and tear, partially or fully. This condition can occur at any age, and often happens when someone is playing a sport or recreational activity, though it can also happen during a fall. Our extensively trained orthopaedic surgeons offer a range of non-surgical treatments to address a sprained ankle. We utilize the latest diagnostic equipment to identify the cause of the issue and emphasize a conservative approach to addressing ankle sprains. Only in rare cases of severe injury wherein minimally techniques are unable to provide relief do we consider an operation.

- Ankle SprainA fracture, or broken bone, can occur for any number of reasons. Ankle fractures can be partial or complete, and they can cause significant pain and mobility problems. If you believe you may have suffered an ankle fracture, our skilled orthopaedic surgeons can help diagnose and treat your condition. Some indications you may have a fractured ankle include significant swelling, pain, bruising, difference in appearance from the other uninjured ankle, and (potentially) bone protrusion in severe cases. Any ankle injury should be evaluated to determine what, if any, treatment should be applied to ensure the fullest recovery possible. At Garden State Orthopaedic Associates, we are dedicated to a patient-focused and conservative approach. We will never recommend surgery unless needed, and only after trying minimally invasive techniques first.
- Plantar FasciitisOne of the most common foot conditions, plantar fasciitis can severely limit mobility and restrict activities by causing shooting pain. Both active and inactive individuals can develop this problem, which can become more serious and painful with time. Our board certified orthopaedic surgeons offer leading treatments for plantar fasciitis, emphasizing conservative, non-surgical techniques that often provide noticeable improvement in the issue. If you believe you are suffering from plantar fasciitis, we can help. Talk to us today to learn more.
- Podiatric SurgeryIn most cases of plantar fasciitis, non-surgical treatment is effective in relieving the discomfort. Foot surgery is uncommon but may be necessary if pain becomes constant and unceasing, even after conservative approaches are attempted.
