Hamilton Carhartt founded Carhartt in 1889 with only four sewing machines and five employees. Now the company has more than 4,000 employees and locations in North America and Europe. Carhartt manufactures work wear and outdoor clothing for the construction, manufacturing, farming and ranching industries as well as outdoor enthusiasts. The company originally manufactured overalls in duck and denim fabrics. Now Carhartt has a product line of warm and cold weather clothing including jeans and work pants, shirts, sweats, shorts, tees and accessories. The company markets its products through multiple distributors and on its Web site. Carhartt locations include Madisonville, Ky.
