General Info
Monroe Street Framing For over 25 years, Monroe Street Framing has been Madison's source for exceptional custom picture framing. Our company started on the premise of providing uncompromising quality and customer service to our community. Over the years, our business has expanded to reach thousands of customers across the country. Our framing shop resides in a historic Prairie Style Building ca. 1949 in the beautiful Monroe Street Neighborhood. From this unique vantage point, we view the art we frame both for its present and its historic legacy in the homes and commercial buildings of our clients. More about the owners: Michelle Waldeck, MS, became a co-owner of Monroe Street Framing in 2007 after working at the store for nine years. She entered the framing industry in 1994, looking to learn a new skill and not knowing how much she would come to love it. Michelle has a background as a painter and illustrator and was formally trained as an art therapist. She has an eye for proportion and appreciates the importance of art in everyone's life. Michelle quickly gained a reputation for helping clients choose the right mat and frame to highlight their art in its residential or commercial environment. Clients also rely on Michelle to help them choose art for their homes and offices. When she's not at Monroe Street Framing, Michelle enjoys photography, creating her own art, and most recently finds herself getting tangled up with yarn and crochet hooks. Dave Gunderson, MFA, has owned Monroe Street Framing since 1983. Dave is an accomplished woodworker and utilizes an on-site, full woodworking shop for restoration work, and in special circumstances will hand mill molding to match existing historic molding. Dave has extensive knowledge about preserving artwork, restoration and archival treatment. His background in fine art is complimented by his aesthetic sensibilities and his passion for his craft. Every staff member of Monroe Street Framing has a background in fine art. All are working professional artists, holding either a BFA or an MFA. At any given time, they are exhibiting their artwork in private or museum collections and also on the local and national level. The professionals at Monroe Street Framing have extensive experience and can help you select the best options for you. We do not work on commission. Monroe Street Framing provides its staff with thorough training and you will always find professional staff on hand to help you. Appointments are appreciated but not required.
