General Info
In the heart of Downtown Madison. This circa 1840 Federal Mansion is now a bed and breakfast. Located in Madison, Indiana, the Iron Gate Inn is just a few blocks away from the Ohio River, wineries, a great brewery, restaurants, shops and many public historic homes. The city of Madison has a unique blend of historic homes and the ambience of a small town that make for a relaxing trip. Additionally, the picturesque Ohio River lazily flows past the city and was once the lifeblood of the area. The house, originally a single family home built in circa 1840 by Mr. Pitcher, has a grand parlor with 13 feet tall ceilings and 11 feet tall Jefferson windows. There are four original ceiling lamps converted from gas to electric, three of which tell the tale of the aging of man. The original summer kitchen is now the Secret Garden Suite and the Carriage house in the back still stands today as the garage. The Inn boasts four comfortable guest rooms with adjoining bathrooms each having a uniqueness of its own. The grand parlor offers a large 10' tall china cabinet, various reading material, and vintage furniture for a relaxing chat or read. The vintage character of the house and its furnishings are complemented by high-speed WiFi throughout, modern security features of electronic outside door locks for easy entrance, outside perimeter cameras, and monitored smoke alarms for the safety of guests. A full gourmet candlelight breakfast is enjoyed by our long weekend guests served on vintage fine china with a fruit bowl, pastry, an entree, coffee, tea, and juice. Our weekday guests enjoy a simpler American style breakfast with coffee, tea, and juice. The house had several owners until it was purchased and renovated into a Bed and Breakfast in 2005. It was operated by the previous owners for 15 years until purchased by Chad and Amy Nichols (from Cincinnati) at the end of 2020. The couple had previously enjoyed the town but fell in love with the house after staying there. They are continuing the operation as a bed and breakfast including some of the breakfast traditions, but have enhanced the reservation experience and updated the decor. The Inn is operated by on-site Inn Keepers, Maria and Gordie Hickey, to welcome and serve guests for a wonderful stay in Madison. They strive to deliver a more personalized and comfortable lodging alternative in a relaxed atmosphere as if you were visiting a friend's home. They invite guests to gather and enjoy one another's company in our grand parlor rich in beautiful detail original to the home. We hope you will consider a stay at our Iron Gate Inn Bed & Breakfast to experience inviting spaces, enchanted ambiance, and timeless hospitality.
