LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, established in 1974, is a one of the largest nonprofit blood suppliers in the United States. The center collects, tests and distributes more than 700 units of blood daily to hospitals and medical centers. It also offers blood testing for various diseases, including hepatitis, HIV and AIDS, and the West Nile Virus through its blood-testing laboratory in Gainesville, Fla. The center is a member of America s Blood Centers and Florida Association of Blood Banks. It also has an online integrated blood banking information system for patients that provides center locations, request forms, blood inventory details and placement of emergency orders. The center owns and operates more than 20 donor centers and over 25 blood mobile vans throughout the United States, including Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
