Gear Engineering was founded in 1946 by Henry Gibson as a custom commercial and aircraft gear manufacturing facility. Mr. Gibson had previously been instrumental in the establishment of the Western Gear Corporation's west coast operations in Lynwood. John Reed joined the company in 1956 and took over leadership in 1964 with the passing of the founder. John established more stringent quality controls and further enhanced production facilities expanding into the aerospace and racing industries. Remaining heavily involved in both the automobile and motorcycle racing world John was able to design and develop many gear applications for that industry. Arthur Van Norman joined the corporation in 1965 as co-owner. Art had extensive experience in machine shop production and special machinery design. Implementing refined proceedures in work flow and machining procedures the company continued to grow in reputation and quality. David Van Norman joined the company in 1966 with experience in machine shop production and machinery design. In 1973 Art's interest in the corporation passed to his son David. John and David continued to improve quality and production with the introduction of CNC turning equipment and reforms to quality control. John passed away in early 2006 and David took over the presidency. With plans to continue, with greater resolve, our service to the racing and custom commercial industries we are looking forward to an increasingly bright future
