I started the process for a Home Equity Loan on July 2nd with First National Bank of Timonium MD. It is now almost 8 weeks later and they are still working on the loan. It is more the underwriting department that i am giving the lowest possible rating for rather than this particular branch. The under writing department does seem to care at all how long it is taken. At 6 weeks they had told the branch manager that all they needed was the deed paper work to close. Then once i took a day off from work to ensure they received the documents in a timely manner decided they wanted to order a appraisal. The underwriting department ensured he would put a rush on the appraisal to get the loan closed asap. However when i spoke to the appraiser she stated they did not express any sense of urgency. She understood my situation and completed the appraisal the next day on a Saturday and had it turned in 3 days later on Tuesday. It is now the end of the week and they have not provided any update on the loan or verified that they received the appraisal. If you are not worries about how long it will take to close they are not a bad institution to deal with. How ever if you have any concern for time to close do not waste any time with them. I stopped by the Branch office this morning to ask the branch manager to call the underwriting department and was told they are not allowed to do so anymore.
