  Dr. Derid S. Ure, DDS, MSD takes a multiple-step approach to diagnose TMD. We may make a model of the teeth to help determine the bite and gain other information. There is a dental examination, as well as an evaluation of the jaw joint and related muscles. We may take X-rays, as well.

• Resin Composite
  As an orthodontist, we find that many of our patients will get a loose bracket at some point during their treatment. The brackets are secured to the teeth using a resin composite. When eating hard foods like nuts, the bracket can become loose or even pop off. This can lead to severe discomfort for the surrounding cheeks. We suggest using a special wax that can be placed around and on top of the bracket until you can get to our office. This will help you to remain comfortable. We can explain more about the wax product when you visit our office.
• Veneers
  This procedure is most useful to correct yellowing. Individuals who have brown or gray discoloration can seek a different procedure to obtain a whiter smile. Options may include veneers, bonding, or crowns.
• Crowns
  The peroxide formula can worsen existing oral health issues such as cavities and gum disease. You should have these problems corrected before whitening your teeth. Keep in mind that these products will not whiten fillings, crowns, veneers, and other forms of dental restoration.

  A TMJ dentist takes a conservative approach to treatment in the beginning. A bite guard or stabilization splint is a common treatment approach. If the problem seems to be caused by bite issues, an orthodontist may recommend bridgework, braces, or an occlusal adjustment. For patients in which conservative remedies do not bring results, other treatments, such as surgery or implants, may be recommended.
