My 14 year old, nonverbal son with autism, attended ST. The therapist clearly did not want to work with him. She made him sit in a chair for preschoolers (could not even get him an appropriate chair). She made him wait at least 10 minutes in the waiting room. while she consulted with another patient, then complained that he was active during the session. He waited patiently for her, but gets frustrated when forced to wait too long. He was third on the waiting list for occupational therapy but was dropped from speech (with no notice) before he was able to receive OT. His therapist claimed that over roughly 3 months, once a week for 45 minutes, he did not make adequate progress. I heard her talking to parents in the waiting room with easier children to work with. My daughter, completing PT, waited in the waiting room for 25 minutes without being told to enter a separate room. The therapist acted like she was doing us a favor by working with her after I paid the $40 copayment.
