The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission, also known as NEIWPCC, focuses on the protection and preservation of clean water. Established in 1947, it is a nonprofit interstate agency that is overseen by more than 30 commissioners. The agency educates public about water quality issues; supports research projects; provides water management services and training to environmental professionals. The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission also addresses wetlands restoration, nonpoint source pollution, water allocation and underground storage tank issues. Its member states include Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. It has partnerships with the Hudson River Estuary Program, Lake Champlain Basin Program, Narragansett Bay Estuary Program and New York/New Jersey Harbor Estuary Program. Additionally, the agency publishes manuals, information brochures, technical reports and guidance materials related to water issues and pollution. The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission is located in Lowell, Mass.
