We learn Karate to "stop other people from hurting us"

General Info

Mr. Hughes began studying Karate in Okinawa, Japan as a U.S. Air Force Sgt. in 1970.In 1972 he earned Brown rank before returning to the States, and continued his practice. In 1975 he found Ed Parker's Kenpo and earned Black rank in 1979. In 1980 he became one of Mr. Parker's private students and was promoted by him thru all ranks including 5th Black in 1988. After Mr. Parker's death in 1990, Mr. Hughes has earned rank from, in order, Mr. Dave Hebler, Mr. Richard Post and Mr. Frank Trejo, all Kenpo Seniors with Parker lineage. Therefore, all promotions are legitimate and unquestionable in American Kenpo Karate.Unlike most of the so called high-ranking, kenpo 'masters' around this area. The point is, do you want to learn karate, or anything else for that matter, from a teacher with questionable diplomas, and therefore questionable knowledge and experience?

The Loveland Kenpo Karate Club offers the highest quality American Kenpo System in Northern Colorado. This is due to the fact that our Head instructor was one of American Kenpo Founder Ed Parker's personal students, for over 10 years. His 44 years experience studying and teaching Karate, puts him at the top of the list of American Kenpo Masters, especially in this area. This is "First Generation Kenpo". Ed Parker's Kenpo has been known as one of best Karate systems for actual self defense in the street, and at LKKC that's why we're here. To learn to 'stop other people from hurting us'...we aren't required to compete in tournaments unless you want to, then you will receive training for that...and we study not only the 'how' but the 'why' of our Art. We learn to understand how to utilize various scientific principals of motion, to create the power and force necessary to escape attacks. This eliminates doubtand therefore, hesitation, in our reactions to aggression. We have fun, however serious work is focused on developing high-level skills, attitudes, intent, etc. The LKKC is a small Club...there aren't 20-30 folks in our classes, so there is much more individual attention so you will progress easier. We practice together and help our fellow members during time before and after class. It's a great atmosphere to learn, and Mr. Hughes keeps things moving with his quick wit and unbelievable database of Kenpo knowledge. This is American Silver Tiger Kenpo and is based strictly on the Ed Parker American Kenpo System. If that is what you want, you will find it here.If you don't know, there is a 12 week temporary membership designed to give you a 'true opportunity' to commit enough time to really learn some karate, instead of a few days or weeks of casual intro lessons most places offer. You will come away with some real, usable skills.

Amenities
The classes at Loveland Kenpo Karate Club are taught only by the Head Instructor, and as a Club member, you will, periodically, receive a private lesson gratis...free.These are not only for evaluating your progress thru the system, privates are an extra opportunity, with the Head instructor, for questions. Membership dues are very reasonable, especially when you consider the average cost of other local martial arts programs, and the high level of instruction here.If you aren't in shape, don't worry. The classes are not strenuous...some loosening and limbering is all that is needed. You can do calisthenics or exercise for whatever routines you wish. Then we can use all our mat-time for Kenpo. Classes are 90 minutes not 30 or 45, so we learn a lot each class and have time to go over questions in great depth.
