HORRIBLE SERVICE! Changing an alternator was supposed to take 1.5 hours and it ended up taking 4 hours. The gentleman who worked on my car broke a connector and did not tell me about it: only when I returned and put his feet to the fire did he confess. Went back so that they could get the part number to order it from the dealer and THEY DIDN'T EVEN SECURELY LATCH MY HOOD! I was driving on the Watterson heading back home and my hood was flopping as air was rushing underneath it. I don't know if anyone has expereinced a hood flying back on their windshield but I have and it is scary as hell. I demanded a refund because I don't trust them with my car anymore. I was told they would contact me in 3-5 business days once the part was received from the dealer. It's been 5 days and still no call. DO NOT USE PEP BPYS IF YOU VALUE YOUR CAR OR YOUR LIFE: THEY WILL SCREW SOMETHING UP!
Their parts dept. is very knowledgable and helpful, but their service dept. leaves alot to be desired. Once, I was told by the person answering the phone that they would check-out my "check engine" light for free but when they connected me to the service dept. they tried to tell me it would cost $80 for a diagnostic. After questioning this, they said that they would check it at no cost. Another time, I was sure I needed a battery for my wife's car and asked parts if they could check it first. They connected me to service, who said they would, but only upon asking, did they inform me of a $14 charge.

On 9/8/08 my husband called your location about a problem with my explorer. We agreed we needed a wrecker. After my husband further looked at my truck he cancelled the wrecker and came to pep boys to purchase a battery. He was told to put the battery on the charger, (no one offered to help) upon doing so he hit his head quite badly on the equipment. He was given a bandage and then after testing the battery (it tested bad) they wanted to argue with him that the battery wasn't the problem, he needed to bring the truck over to check for solenoids and shorts. He purchased the battery (it was the problem) We couldn't get the piece that holds the battery in (the screw wouldn't catch) so we drove the truck back to pep boys for help. Upon waiting 10+ minutes someone came out, put in the piece, said it is finger tight you will have to tighten it down. My husband was in a suit, not mechanics clothes. I feel that because we didn't do what they wanted customer service went out.
