Norton Neuroscience Institute is the region's leading provider of neurosurgical and neuroscience care. Neuroscience is the study of the brain and central nervous system, particularly their physical and biological attributes and their control of movement, behavior and learning. Through the clinical expertise of the Norton Neurosurgical Institute of Kentucky and other affiliated physicians, the Norton Neuroscience Institute provides a full range of state-of-the-art neurological care for patients. Working with the Leatherman Spine Center, the institute's physicians help evaluate and treat spinal-related disorders in adults and children. The institute, through its own physician staff and partnerships with other providers, will treat patients across the entire spectrum of adult and pediatric neurological disorders. This includes patients requiring neurosurgical procedures (such as tumors, stroke, trauma, spine disorders, and birth defects of the brain and spinal cord); those with neurological problems such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, neuromuscular, and related disorders; and those with psychiatric problems that can have a neurological origin, such as severe depression and obsessive-compulsive disorders. One in every three people will be affected by one of these disorders in his or her lifetime.
