General Info
Egambaram Senthilvel, M.D., is the chief of the Division of Sleep Medicine at the University of Medicine. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Senthilvel is an associate professor of pediatrics at the UofL School of Medicine, a position held since 2012. Dr. Senthilvel, the leading doctor with Norton Children’s Sleep Medicine, is a board-certified physician in family medicine and sleep medicine through the American Board of Family Medicine. He also is the director of the Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital pediatric sleep lab. Dr. Senthilvel has clinical interest in pediatric sleep disorders and most often treats patients for obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, and restless legs syndrome. He is an active member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and American Academy of Family Physicians. At 14 years old, Dr. Senthilvel sought to pursue a medical career. In addition to wanting to help people, his decision was cemented after he watched his grandfather, who kept stockpiles of medical supplies, provide the necessary items to people who weren’t able to visit a doctor outside of their rural village in India. He graduated in 1991 with his medical degree from Stanley Medical College with his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). After pursuing a postgraduate degree in otolaryngology, he received higher training in the discipline and earned his Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) of Edinburgh, where he worked for 10 years. Dr. Senthilvel moved to the United States in 2006 and completed his residency in family medicine at MetroHealth Medical Center. He went to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for fellowship training in sleep medicine. When Dr. Senthilvel isn’t treating patients, he likes to travel abroad. He is a regular swimmer and also started exploring cycling. He and his wife, a neonatologist, have two kids.
