Founded in 1946, Transport Service Co. is a provider of transportation services to the fuel and chemical industries, as well as being a large independent tank truck carrier of sweetener products. The company operates through two divisions: a chemical division and a food grade division. The chemical division provides tank truck carrier services to chemical manufacturers. The food grade division specializes in serving manufacturers of bulk liquid food products. The company employs more than 600 non-union drivers and has a large fleet, which consists of more than 600 late model tractors and 1,000 specialized, stainless steel trailers. It maintains food grade terminals in Decatur, Ill.; Lafayette, Ind.; Loudon, Tenn.; and Memphis, Tenn. Transport Service also has chemical terminals in Freeport, Texas; Geismar, La.; Kingsport, Tenn.; Joilet, Ill.; Midland, Miss.; and Plaquemine, La.
