West side transmission is the worst auto repair company I have ever been to. I took my car there for transmission repair and he had my car for 3 months. At 1 point i called him from outside his gate and he told me my car was up on the rack and he was working on it as we spoke. I was looking right at my car still sitting in the lot with spider webs going from the bumper to the ground. I was stuck with a rental car for 3 freaking months. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

It's Friday evening and I'm headed from home in Sacramento while on leave from Fort Hood, TX to New Orleans right after Hurricane Katrina in my old 1989 Merkur XR4ti with a C3 transmission. The car decided to start dumping transmission oil all over the catalytic converter causing my car to look like it was on fire as I drove down HWY5. After hobbling into Los Banos looking for a repair shop, I found Westside Transmission which would open on Saturday. In the morning, parked in front of the front door waiting for the shop to open, the owner arrived and after explaining my problem, the owner put my car on the lift and worked all day fixing the transmission. It needed to be torn down and parts replaced.... on a Saturday... so I could get back to Fort Hood by Sunday! He called around, got the parts, and repaired my transmission. Because the car's engine had an Esslinger racing engine and a big turbo with plenty of boost, the stock settings on the transmission would not work to make it shift correctly, so he took at least another hour working with me getting it all set up right with test drives and re-calibrating back and forth until it was right. At the end of an eight hour day, and what should have cost me thousands of dollars, when I asked how much I owed him, he just shook my hand and said thank you for serving. If you swatted me with a feather at that moment I would have fell over. It's been almost nine years and his generosity and kindness still impacts me greatly to this day. Not only did he help a guy who was passing through and never likely to be a return customer, he also did the opposite of screwing over a traveler who had no choice but pay what ever was demanded, he charged nothing! This may sound goofy to some reading this but his kindness changed my life as I have sought out to follow his example over the years of what it means to be a good person, and have attempted to pay it forward when I can. So if you're reading reviews trying to decide where to go to get your transmission fixed, please give Westside your business. And if you do, tell the owner thank you for me. Cris D.
