General Info
The Lummis Home and Garden was built between 1896 and 1910 on the western bank of the Arroyo Seco. Originally named "El Alisal" after the local sycamore trees, the house was built using stones from the arroyo bed, as well as concrete and wood. It was built by Charles F. Lummis, whose art collection became the foundation for the Southwest Museum, which has since merged with the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum to become Autry National Center. The Lummis Home and Garden now serves as the home of the Historical Society of Southern California.
