Los Angeles Superior Court serves nearly 9.5 million people through its several courtrooms. It is responsible for providing fair and timely disposition and accurate recording of its legal proceedings. The court, located in Los Angeles, manages various specialized courts and services, such as drug court, proposition 36 courts, homeless court, domestic violence clinics, self-help centers, juvenile mental health court, and informal and juvenile traffic court. The superior court is the trial court of general and limited jurisdiction. The general jurisdiction cases involve criminal, civil, juvenile, family law, mental health and probate issues. It also provides hearing for limited jurisdiction cases that include criminal, civil and small claims. It handles civil cases, including personal injury, contract and business disputes, and condemnation of property through eminent domain proceedings. Additionally, it handles various juvenile cases that involve dependent minors who have been abused and neglected.
