- PneumoniaDysphagia, or swallowing disorder, is any abnormality occurring during this process. It can occur due to a stroke, Parkinson’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease, or any other condition affecting the neuromuscular structures in the head and neck. Because the structures involved in breathing and swallowing are in such close proximity, ingestion of food particles into the airway is a major concern. The most severe cases of dysphagia can lead to aspiration pneumonia due to bacteria in the lungs from an abnormal swallow which, not uncommonly, can lead to death.
- AutismBehavior disorder is a broad category of disorders that includes any behavior that is disruptive or atypical. Disruptive and atypical behaviors can stem from an underlying disorder, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, or can be more specifically defined as only social in nature, such as Social Communication Disorder.
- Multiple SclerosisDysarthria is commonly caused by neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, cerebral palsy, Lou Gehrig’s disease, or late stages of multiple sclerosis. It may also occur after a cerebral vascular accident (stroke), head trauma, tumor, or infection.
