Derek Chao, MD, is Board certified in internal medicine and nephrology. He is a hospitalist -- a physician who specializes in caring for patients in hospitals. He earned his medical degree from Pennsylvania State University Medical School in Hershey, Pa. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), San Fernando Valley program at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center. In addition, he completed a fellowship in nephrology at UCLA, San Fernando Valley. Dr. Chao believes that doctors should treat the patient and not just the disea se and that patients should be treated with dignity and respect at all times. Dr. Chao is fluent in English and Mandarin.
