We chose to have the ignition worked on here rather than our regular place because they promised to have it fixed by Monday. On Monday were told it was more likely Tuesday "around noon." It's now almost 5:00pm, and I have unexpectedly been without a car for two days. I would prefer to under promise and over deliver.
Wednesday the 96 Ford Explorer failed the smog check. It was explained that I would need to get the diagnostics run for the mechanic to determine the cause of the failure. It was understood by the mechanic and the owner of this 76 Station, that if the problem was too expensive there would be no work done. I was quoted $122.50 to run the diagnostics and get the reading. Appointment for Friday morning was made. On Friday, the owner states that it will be $165.00 estimate. When I questioned the cost versus what I was told previously, he explained "in case they had to fix something". I reminded the Owner that they quoted me the $122.50 for the diagnostics, and that we were not doing any work until the cause was determined. THE OWNER accused me of trying to get something for free and said "don't get sarcastic with me".I was a woman upset and feeling like I was being taken advantage of.He did change the estimate to $122.50. But I left and did not return.
