We contracted with Roy Vanderpool of Build Gates and Fences in early December, 2018. He was to build a 6 foot wooden cap & trim fence around our back yard. The 2 gates were to be decorative ironwork. In addition, he loaded & took with him my two antique large metal wagon wheels which he agreed to incorporate into a swing frame. He was paid $1,800 in cash as down payment on contract work he agreed to complete. He showed up the next day and put up a few fence boards & then didn't return for several weeks. When he did return he put up a few posts and several more boards. From that point on he offered all sorts of excuses for not coming to finish the work.

In spite of many, many texts, phone calls, & emails - by springtime he would not communicate at all. Finally we were forced to hire a different contractor to complete the job. However...he has obviously stolen my wagon wheels because he refuses to make arrangements to return my wheels (given to me by my now deceased father).

We have done our best to settle this issue with Roy Vanderpool, owner of Build Gates and Fences, but he will not cooperate with us. Therefore we will be forced to take steps against him. Sadly, this is unfortunate because Roy is a talented craftsman. He just can't seem to operate an honest company.

Roy Vanderpool scammed us. We hired him to build a sunroom. He asked for an upfront payment, started on the project and left. We are unable to contact him and he will not return our calls. He also started on the project without a building permit. We had to get the permit for him and also pay for his penalty fee. We had an inspector to review his work. His work, unfinished, was not built to code and needs to be torn down. All his good reviews must be fake, and I was wrong to trust those. Unprofessional to vanish and run away. I will see him in court.
