The Department of Public Works operates a highway division that is responsible for the maintenance of recharge basins and drainage structures, street leaf collection, and ice control and snow removal. It supports a sweeping program and offers street lighting and electrical services. The department also provides highway engineering services. The Department of Public Works is a part of the Town of Babylon, N.Y, which operates its office in Lindenhurst, N.Y., and maintains human and general services, environmental control, assessment and public safety departments. Its department of environmental control is responsible for animal shelter and bay management, as well as operates sanitation department, commercial waste district and residential recycling center.
