He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with dual bachelor of science degrees in psychology and biology with a concentration in genetics and development. He earned a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania, and served a residency in family medicine at UPMC Pinnacle Community Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
