- Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary is a private nonprofit nature organization with a 100 acre Wildlife Sanctuary. About 4 miles of trails traverse diverse habitats, including, wheel chair accessible paved trail and a trail side bird blind in the prairie. The Nature Sanctuary offers birding, hiking, event and wedding planning, programs for birthday parties, summer camp, boy & girl scout, family, and school field trips. A Nature Museum with classrooms, a gift shop, library, indoor bird viewing area, and exhibits (including zoo animals) is open Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Trails are open daily 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during Daylight Savings Time and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. the rest of the year. View map to get directions and donate now at the website.
