Located in Lexington, Mo., the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that promotes public safety, identifies and solves criminal cases and safeguards citizens rights. It supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the usage of illegal drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. The Lafayette County Sheriff's Department maintains a K-9 unit that handles cases related to drug intervention, tracking, and searches for persons, buildings and evidence. The department also has a Crisis Action Team (CAT), which serves high-risk warrants, resolves hostage situations and participates in high-risk man hunts. In addition, the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department operates a crime scene unit that is a team of trained crime scene technicians.
