I am Indian, My name is Ashish Pandey, I am Basically from Mumbai ,india and I regularly have Indian food outside. I've been to other Indian restaurants in the area and had a decent experience ,I wanted the best Indian food for my wedding because my Wife's parents are from India and we picked in this Indian Restaurant in down town because we have tried many Indian restaurants and we found this restaurant to be the best amongst the lot. The on site tandoor with exceptional decoration and live sitar and tabla music and buffet setup we loved it all. When we went to the restaurant to settle the bill we were asked to share our experience with others and I thought of writting on the net. I can not thank anymore when I told the owners to give special attantion because I want my mother in law to be impressed and she was really impressed and I am glad we picked this indian restaurant to cater the wedding. The customer service was great.

Under new management and no longer a good place to eat. My husband and I use to eat there fairly often but since the management changed the service is terrible. We have called in to get take out and they had no record of our order. The last time we ate inside, first it took a very long time to even get someone to take the order, then after our order was taken and another long wait, the lady came over and said she was sorry she had lost the order slip. It took an extremely long time to get our food and then unfortunately the order wasn't correct. When we went up to pay (because they never brought the check) I had to ask for some type of discount because our wait was so long and the order wasn't even correct. They barely gave any discount at all and looked really confused that I even asked. So, unless you want to wait an hour for your food and then it isn't even what you ordered.....you may want to go elsewhere. The food still taste good but much too long to get.

The best decision I ever made, this is the closest authentic Indian cuisine I've found.

I've had authentic Indian cuisine at a good friend of mine's place while his parents were visiting the U.S. Let me just say that it was by far the best and I don't think I will ever find it anywhere else, unless I travel to India or his parents return to the U.S. I hate to say this, but I've eaten at several other Indian restaurants in the Lexington area and I was not too enthused about them. The service is very good, lunchtime is quite busy so your drinks may not get refilled as quickly as you like, but just motion to the waiters/waitresses. If the food runs low, they're very good about bringing more, unlike the other places (that was my biggest pet peeve with the other Indian restaurants and that they had very little meat dishes.) Tandoor, like more other cultured restaurants tries to keep the spices down to cater to Americans (trust me, it's probably better that way, because my eyes were watering during dinner at my friend's place.) Overall, Tandoor has good food and atmosphere.

A local favorite of mine

While the lunch buffet is not spicy enough for my palate, you will find the dinners superb!! The service is standard, but friendly. Get there early so you don't have to wait as long. On special holidays, including Valentine's day, you probably need a reservation. The atmosphere includes an ostentatious chandelier and lovely hand painted murals of Indian scenes.
