The American Board of Family Medicine, also known as ABFM, is a voluntary, nonprofit, private organization. Founded in 1969, it is one of the largest medical specialty boards in the United States. The organization offers certificates of added qualifications in adolescent, geriatric, and hospice and palliative medicine programs. The American Board of Family Medicine provides a range of educational and scientific programs that focus on family, sleep and sports medicine practices. It offers several family medicine residency training programs. The organization conducts one-day, computer-based geriatric medicine examinations. The American Board of Family Medicine provides certificates in adolescent medicine in conjunction with the American Board of Pediatrics.
